At this time a year ago the Algonquin Thunder women’s basketball team was still smarting from a dreadful 4-10 season. Now, after finishing the regular season 15-1, the team is getting primed to leave a mark next year.

On paper it may look like the Thunder choked against a weaker team in their first playoff matchup, losing 52-43 to Fanshawe. Basketball, however, isn’t played on paper.

It took 14 wins in a row, but by finishing their regular season with wins over St. Lawrence and Loyalist, the Algonquin Thunder women’s basketball team hit a big mark. “We met with a sports psychologist before the season started,” said Algonquin player Sarah Miller. “We set finishing 15-1 as a goal.” An early season loss to George Brown put that mark in jeopardy, but the team rallied and went undefeated the remainder of the season.
