If you have attended an Algonquin Thunder sporting event and were treated to an exciting and
entertaining affair it cannot entirely be attributed to Algonquin’s athletic program. The electrifying
atmosphere is due in large part to the man behind the microphone.

Vikta-Paulo Bainomugisha has become a staple of Friday and Saturday events at the Ron Port Athletic
Facility and will be sorely missed in the future. Bainomugisha is graduating this year from small and
medium enterprise management program and chances are his voice has boomed through  Algonquin
speakers for the last time.

“He brings a lot of fun and energy,” said Allie McDonald, Thunder scorekeeper

That is exactly what Bainomugisha hopes to bring to home games.

“I try to give our team a home court advantage,” he said. “When you announce someone’s
name when they are playing and you do it properly with a lot of enthusiasm it gets the crowd into it and
gives the player that extra push.”

Bainomugisha definitely gives the team an advantage, revving them up and also keeping them loose
with witty announcing.

His entertainment and skill with the mic has not gone unnoticed. The Algonquin student has also been
working with the CIS, calling Carleton basketball games. The excellence that he portrayed there also
landed him a big time gig.

Bainomugisha was given the chance to announce the CIS national basketball championships which were
recently held at Scotia Bank Place. Three of the games that he announced also made it on TSN.

“It was mind blowing,” said Bainomugisha, looking back at his experience on the big stage. “That’s
where the world juniors were held last year, the Ottawa Senators play there, it was an honour.”

Despite his success, he didn’t really plan on getting involved with announcing.

“I saw an ad by the gym looking for an announcer and I thought it would be kind of funny if I were to go
and tryout.”

Luckily for him, he made it and had the opportunity to announce the OCAA men’s provincal college
basketball championships that were held at Algonquin last year.

After an unexpected start with announcing snowballed into the success that Bainomugisha has had, it
would be very unfortunate for fans if the thrilling voice were to hang up his microphone for good.
